About Us

Hittle Grove Christian Church had its beginnings in 1824 meeting in a log building at the southwest corner of Minier Lake. They came together under the principles of what is known as “The Restoration Movement” as Christians only, guided by the Scriptures.

On January 11, 1829 the church was chartered. Through the 1830’s and 40’s they worshiped in homes. The church was moved to the Lick Skillet area and met in a schoolhouse and later a church building was built to house the congregation.

In 1865 the congregation decided to move the church halfway between Lick Skillet and Armington on what is now called Dale Road.

In 1878 the church building was moved to Armington a block north of its present location.

In 1886 the church was renamed Armington Christian Church and rededicated.

In 1906 the present sanctuary and basement were completed and dedicated.

In 1945 the church left the Disciples of Christ, becoming an Independent Christian Church.

In 1971 the education building including classrooms and offices was completed and dedicated.

2019 marks our 190th anniversary of ministry.

Much more of our history is available to view in our Historical Room just off the sanctuary. Documents include the original charter, information about founding families and their histories, a list and biographies of some of the ministers who have served this congregation as well as artifacts found that ground our history in the communities where the church has served.
